Hi. I’m Portia, but my foster Mom & Dad call me Miley… because I’m a “wrecking ball” or something like that! I’m an energetic young girl who LOVES people, toys, puppy friends, and FOOD. But mostly, after a short play, I love snuggling up in your arms to fall asleep. I have my best sleeps with humans. My foster Mom said some Moms and Dads even have little humans and that SOMETIMES lucky girls like me get to snuggle with those little humans at night…. I think I would love this! I know I’m a great friend and would make some little humans feel VERY loved and SAFE.
I am working on becoming fully housetrained. My foster Mom, Dad, and mostly my big foster brother are teaching me to use a doorbell to let them know I have to go outside to pee. My foster Mom has tried to lay pee pads down in the house; but, they just look like little blankets to me, so I would rather just sleep on them and let my Mom keep an eye on me to make sure I make it outside in time. I’m very smart though so a couple more weeks of watching and teaching me and I should be fully house trained!
Crate training, what defines fully crate trained? I’ll go in there if you give me treats because I’m a foodie and a good listener; but, I would rather just be with you. Either way, I’m practicing going in there a couple hours each day so that when this craziness is over and my humans have to work I stay safe and out of trouble. Unless you work from home all the time, then that’s a BONUS! I sleep in my kennel at night and cry only 1-2 times after I’m asleep because I want to be let out to pee, but I will snuggle back up and go to sleep in my kennel if you want me to, at about 7AM I go out to do all of my business and my foster Mom & Dad let me crawl back into bed with them. This is my best sleep, I curl up right by your face. As soon as I can hold my bladder for the full night though, I would MUCH prefer to sleep with you all the time, if you’ll let me.
I am VERY social, I love all sorts of humans, I have tiny neighbours, wrinkly neighbours, neighbours with long hair, neighbours with short hair, neighbours with dogs…. You name it, I’ve got it and I love them ALL! I haven’t met cats yet. But I know I would do fine. I can test and respect boundaries with no problems. I think I would do amazing with a family that has little humans to play with because of my energy! I’m practicing walking on a leash in my back yard. My foster Mom makes me wear this halter thing, which I hate, but I’m learning to walk with it. She says I have to wear it until I know not to pull and can promise to follow and stay with her. So far, I’m doing REALLY well. As soon as you say my name with a kissy sound, I come running straight for you. So, as I grow up, I’m sure I will be great on a leash, if you keep practicing with me.
I do need help with not jumping. I like to stand on my back legs and jump up because I’m so excited or because I smell food. My foster Mom and Dad are working hard on this by redirecting me to sit and rewarding that behaviour instead. I’m learning this and I’ve even started to “sit” for attention now… I think they like this more. Either way, I will need to be taught “off” and “down” so I don’t knock anyone over when I get bigger or steal food off the counters (I already try). Another thing, I should probably stay in my kennel during meal times… I don’t like this very much; but, my foster Mom says I need some help with my table manners so being in there is supposed to teach me I can’t be at the table during meal time. Overall, I would like some more help with impulsivity and excitability!
I’m not really afraid of anything… that’s why my foster Mom and Dad call me a wrecking ball. I’m jumping off the bed at 10wks when my 7mo. Old foster brother only started doing that last month! I’m a very strong and independent …Wait…. I am afraid of big dogs when they come running up to me at first, I like to hide between my foster Dad’s legs. But if you help me and do the introduction is slow, I warm up right away. 5 days with my foster brother and I’ve convinced him to let me sleep in his doghouse with him, I am cute and I know it.
I am the perfect family addition who would love to grow up with your favourite 2-leggeds as their favourite 4-legged. I would play with them all day, teach them responsibility, and then I would cuddle up next to them with kisses until they fell asleep. I know I will make them feel loved and safe and take all of their worries away. Especially now, when everything is so uncertain, after your little 2-leggeds go to sleep, I would love to snuggle with the bigger 2-leggeds on the couch and make sure my whole family is happy. So, what do you think? Will you be my new Mom & Dad?
