Hi. I’m Cactus.
I’m a cuddly girl whose favourite activities are chewing my bones, watching the neighbours/birds and meeting new humans on walks.
I am fully housetrained and I do not need to be crated (I’ve never chewed anything in my foster home!).
Since being in foster care I have had two femoral head osteotomies on my hind legs to correct my hip dysplasia. I am still working on gaining strength but the vet is very proud on how quickly I have bounced back. I am eager to participate in “normal dog activities” so I should be back to full strength soon!
I have lived with children and other dogs in the past but I haven’t had a ton of interaction with them recently because of my surgeries. My foster mom has noticed that I am very submissive with other dogs when we are not separated by a fence. If my potential family already has a furry friend that is OK with me, but I prefer calm dogs. I am very interested in cats but my foster mom has not seen me interact with one up close. On our walks I am more interested in sniffing animals than chasing them, so I should be OK with cats.
I LOVE going for walks and my foster mom has been working on increasing my endurance post-surgery. I don’t pull on the leash and I am very good at heeling (when I am not distracted by a good smell). When off leash I don’t wander too far away from my foster mom but when I do, I have a pretty good recall (although this is still a new skill for me).
I am a sweet girl who would love to find my forever snuggle buddy! Could that be you?
Vetting Note:
Cactus had 2 major orthopedic surgeries and may need some accommodation as she ages. It is important to have open communication with her vet to be aware of signs of pain. Many dogs that have had the same procedures are active like any other dog – running and hiking! Weight control will be important to keep pressure off her joints.
I am a Manitoba Mutt Super Trooper, please see my link.
